I have been scoping out the Gloria Dei Church in Bristol which has a major solar array being installed on the roof of the church and offices. The project began at the start of the year and has been a slow process due to weather and the steep pitch of the roof but the crew from Ross Solar started putting the panels on the main roof this week so I took my DJI Inspire 1 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro out for a little filming. It’s nice to have the flexibility of the Inspire with the X5 camera so you can use different focal length lens to get a variety of shots and perspectives. Lens of choice here was the Olympus 25mm f/1.8 on the Inspire.
Had a request to provide some aerial drone footage of some local shopping centers recently. The use of drones by professional FAA certified pilots can be a beneficial and powerful marketing tool for real estate agents, developers and construction companies. Took my DJI Inspire 1 Pro fitted with the Olympus 25mm lens for a little sunset and twilight flight around downtown Hartford. The beauty of the 25mm lens compared to the standard 15mm lens is the compression effect giving the illusion that you are closer than you actually are.
Using the DJI GSPro app to fly a repeatable autonomous mission around a construction project working on a soccer field rebuild in Farmington, CT. Plan is to create a video montage of the progress over a period of time.
Finally had a chance to edit my sunrise drone video from the Thimble Islands off the Branford shoreline which was locked up with ice from the extreme cold we’ve had over the last week or so here in Connecticut. Warm weather and rain could melt some of it Friday and Saturday but seasonable temperatures are set to return next week. Shot with my DJI Inspire 1 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro.
Great morning of flying in Farmington and Collinsville after the first snow storm of the season in Connecticut. Footage capture with both Inspire 1 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro, hope you enjoy!
I had the good fortune of taking a brief trip to the amazing island of Maui for a business trip covering the UConn men’s basketball team at the 2016 Maui Jim Maui Invitational just before Thanksgiving. I was only there for a few days but knew I had to take my P3 Pro along to capture some of the island’s beauty. I took this shot at sunrise on my second day, wind was gusting between 25-30 mph which caused me to be extra cautious in an area I wasn’t familiar with. My goal was to shoot the gap between the two peaks but decided the wind was too much and cut my flight short, still was a memorable sunrise.
Most of the state of Connecticut is entrenched in a severe drought that has strained water supplies in many communities and reservoirs. The Colebrook Lake dam is at historic levels and signs of relief are few and far between as weather patterns have kept rain, and now snow, from reaching our state.
